Directed by Johnny Kelly and developed by ad agency Young & Rubicam New York, the new Barcadi ad campaign focuses on the evolution of mankind and our need to socialise... a simple idea, but they are usually the best kind. Like the visual style but thought the tone/message didn't quite match the brand... maybe a little whimsical for a hardcore spirit... I suppose it is Barcadi and Coke though... not Tennents Special Brew. The main thing that interested me about the ad though is the incredible similarity it bares to the 'I'm Not An Artist' website - a collection of animated GIF's created by a group of designers - the link is so obvious that I wondered what their involvment in the Barcadi campaign had been, and if they were credited/paid for their input.... any ideas?

Feature in US Wired this month on Jimmy Lai - a tabloid tycoon, who made his money in newspapers - and his "animation assembly line" in Taiwan, Next Media. In 2007 he had the idea to animate stories and decided to build his own CG studio, producing short features as quickly as possible. Next Media gained world wide recognition for their notorious Tiger Woods vid, depicting the moment his mrs chased him down the driveway with a golf club. Since then Next Media has animated the death of Michael Jackson, Barack Obama having an affair and I think my favourite... Steve Jobs/Darth Vadar selling his iCrap.
